Ethan Stone.

The reason his name seemed familiar was that his producers had been hounding her to agree to appear on a segment on his health and weight loss show. They claimed to want the sisters to try to mend their relationship so Andie could have closure.

Karis knew better than to put herself within arm’s reach of her sister.

The doorbell rang.

Karis puffed out a delicious sigh of relief and binned the carton. At eight p.m., it could only mean one thing.

“Thank the Lord—dinner.”

“What did you order?” Her mum’s chastising tone filtered into her ear. “Nothing unhealthy, I hope.”

“It’s usually a surprise. A few times a week my friend from the deli drops by with food. She knows I hardly have time to shop and takes pity on me.”

Karis practically bounded to the front door. She was star-ving. She yanked open the door, ready to devour whatever mouth-watering yumminess was on the other side and nearly dropped the phone.

Her mouth fell open. She blinked, unable to believe her eyes. For sure, something yummy stood before her, but not hers to devour—not that she wouldn’t have equally welcomed dinner in this form. She let her gaze roam down then back up again.

Ethan Stone—he of the title Sexiest Eye Candy To Lust After—towered outside her door. He was tall, far taller than she imagined from his magazine photo. At five-foot-eight—eleven in heels—she looked most men in the eye, but to do the same with Ethan Stone she had to tip her chin six inches.

She must have conjured some kind of freaky fantasy after snagging her own copy of the gossip magazine. Because there was no way Ethan Stone would be standing outside her door at eight-o-five at night in a dinner suit holding a single white rose as he unleashed that incredible smile. Karis glanced behind her to where she’d left the magazine, then back at him.

“Karis Van de Burke?” His deep intonation did something strange to her solar plexus. Made it quiver.

“Darling? Are you still there?” Her mum’s voice was an unwelcome intrusion.

“I’ll call you back, Mum.” She cut the call without taking her eyes off the man in front of her. He was striking, with a straight-edged aquiline nose, chiselled features so even and appealing she couldn’t stop staring. His hair was a lighter brown than his photo depicted, but his eyes … those eyes were just as remarkable. Dark-blue rings surrounded the vivid blue irises, creating a contrast, which added a mysterious air that surely made him stand out in a crowd.

“Yes, I’m Karis Van de Burke.” She cleared her throat. What was up with her voice?

“I’m Ethan Stone.”

“I know who you are.” She tucked the phone behind her back so he wouldn’t notice her slight nervous tremor. “Why are you here?”

He offered her the rose. “I came to proposition you.”

She blinked. The evening sun was still bright and framed him in golden light, making him appear almost dreamlike.

He smiled. Someone should outlaw such a lethal smile. “I’m hoping you’ll let me take you out to dinner, ask you to reconsider my producers’ offer.”

Karis released her grip on the door and took the rose. “I’m sorry to inform you, you’re wasting your time, Mr Stone. As I’ve told your producer—Rob, was it—?”

“Ray.”

“Ray … I’m not interested in becoming a circus act.”

“He relayed your thoughts on the matter. However, I was hoping you’d give me one hour of your time so I can—”

“Try to convince me to let you make a fool of me on national television?” She handed back the rose. “Thanks, but no thank you.”

His fascinating blue eyes flicked to her outstretched hand. He left her hanging.

Choosing that moment, her stomach growled a ravenous reminder.

“You’re hungry, and I’m offering to take you to dinner.” He sniffed the air. “Since I don’t detect the aroma of food, I think I can safely presume you haven’t eaten yet.”

“I was just on my way to pick up something.”

His smile told her he knew she was fibbing. “In that case, will you allow me to join you?”

Arm tiring from its outstretched position, Karis drew the rose back and placed it, along with the phone, onto the side table next to the door.

“So you can talk me into appearing on your show?”

“Because I’m hungry too, and I’d like an opportunity to share my ideas for your sister’s follow-up episode, in the hopes you might consider rethinking your position.”

She couldn’t hold back the wicked smile tugging the corners of her lips, so she bit down on her bottom lip. Any position involving Ethan Stone did deserve some consideration.

Excerpt:

Mikel returned, dropping two rolls of wire onto the counter. “I have a new shipment of barbed wire too. Perhaps that works better for your needs?”

Konrad turned and laid a hand on the smooth wire. “The fence to pen in my cattle has several components, so this is what I need. But thanks, Toussaint.”

The shopkeeper shrugged. “Some ranchers prefer the barbed.”

“I do too, and I may have to resort to that when the winter weather sets in. But I’ll wait on that purchase.” He leaned his other hand on the counter. “This year, I’m building a brush fence. I’ll use what I can from downed branches and rocks cleared from the field that will be planted in the spring.” He shrugged and straightened.

“Makes sense.” Mikel nodded as he pulled the pencil from his ear. “I remember those types of fences in old country. Uncle had them around his vineyard.”

Konrad was sure his wasn’t the only sad story the store owner had heard over the last year. “Gotta come up with the cheapest solution for protecting my cattle.” He shook his head. “The ranch can’t withstand any more losses like last year.”

“Excuse me, sir.” A female voice floated in the air.

The tone was pitched low, almost intimate. Konrad shifted and raised an eyebrow at the tall woman dressed in an ill-fitting coat and a split skirt that showed several inches of boot-encased legs. “Are you speaking to me?”

“Have you considered using herding dogs to contain your cattle?” The blonde woman took one step closer, her gaze intent.

“No.” This stranger had an opinion about how he ran his ranch? His body stiffened.

“I train the dogs that work the sheep at Green Meadows Ranch, and I don’t see why the dogs couldn’t be used with cattle.” She glanced over her shoulder and then back to connect with his gaze. “The principles are the same, as long as the person uses the right cues.”

He squinted at the green-eyed woman who stood only a few inches shorter than his six-foot height. Wisps of blonde hair had escaped the edges of her plain black bonnet and straggled along her cheeks. Her face was pleasant enough—probably would be more so without the frown creasing her forehead. “Have we met?”

“I apologize, Mr. Werner. I’m Anora Huxley.” A blush reddened her cheeks. “I am acquainted with Gaelle.”

His younger sister by five years. Which explained why he didn’t know this woman from his schooling years. Huxley did sound familiar, though. But he didn’t have time to contemplate why because the woman now stood by his side. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a thick-set scowling man hovering two feet away who looked madder than a newly branded steer. The second member of the arguing duo.

“My dogs are exceedingly smart. A special breed with strong herding instincts. They respond to hand signs and whistles, and from a distance of more than ten rods.”

He held up a hand lest he be stuck here listening to her run down every detail. “I do not wish to be lectured on how to run my ranch. My brush fence will suffice.” Regretting the stiffness of his tone, he lifted a finger to tap the brim of his hat. “Good day, Mrs. Huxley.” He spotted the brief widening of her gaze before scooping up the roll of wire and headed toward the storeroom. Irritation at the outspoken women and her high-handed advice put an extra punch into each footfall.

Amy Ruttan interviews Thomas Ashwood from UNWRAPPED BY THE DUKE

Welcome Amy. Please introduce yourself.

Hi Everyone,

I’m Amy Ruttan and I write for Harlequin Medicals. I write contemporary romance, but in a amy-ruttan-bookpast life I wrote erotic romance and hopefully will get time (if the deadlines allow it) to fix them up and re-release them again.

My hero’s sometimes are not the most talkative, but one is quite charming and dashing. He was willing to come back and visit me for a interview. Please kindly welcome one of the premier cardio thoracic surgeons on Harley Street, his grace, The Duke of Weatherstone Thomas Ashwood.

AMY: So glad that you’ve decided to join me again, your grace.

THOMAS: *smiling in that dashing charming way* You know that I love to spend time with you.

AMY: So you’re book is coming out in November 2016. The last time I spoke with you was during revisions in January of 2016.

THOMAS: Yes, this process of publishing can take quite a long time.

AMY: Well, in all fairness, your story is a Christmas story…

THOMAS: Touché. Now, what would you like to know?

AMY: I think I know a lot about you.

THOMAS: *leans forward* Yes, indeed you do.

AMY: I also have a great fondness for Geraldine.

THOMAS: As do I. *winks*

AMY: Do you want to tell the lovely readers about your book coming out in November?

THOMAS: It’s a sexy tale of a gorgeous rake who finds happiness in the arms of a woman his mother would have a thousand fits over.

AMY: Your mother wouldn’t have liked Geraldine? She is a daughter of a lord…

THOMAS: Ahh, but she’s illegitimate.

AMY: This isn’t a historical romance. It’s set in 2016.

THOMAS: My mother still had high aspirations and Geraldine might not have fit the bill, but then again…my mother died when I was young.

AMY: I know. I’m sorry about that.

THOMAS: Plot device. I understand, love.

AMY: What made you decide to be a surgeon?

THOMAS: I wanted to save lives. My father wanted me in politics or possibly as a barrister, but I was fascinated with medicine .Loved the hospitals and the intricate workings of the heart. So delicate, but strong as well. It’s remarkable.

AMY: Why do the ladies call you the Dark Duke?

THOMAS: I’m a bit of rogue. A love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy.

AMY: You were…

THOMAS: Don’t give the plot away!

AMY: It’s a romance …readers know what they get when they read a romance.

THOMAS: I suppose they do. Tell me, why did you choose to become a writer?

AMY: You’re changing the subject off of you.

THOMAS: Well, I don’t know much about you. I do know you like coffee, you stay up late to write …there was a dog I believe that took up a lot of your time when you were writing my story.

AMY: Yes, my puppy. Although she’s a year now. She’s a cockapoo.

THOMAS: Ahh, yes.

AMY: And you’re not wrong about the coffee and the staying up late.

THOMAS: You also like Christmas movies like my beloved. White Christmas is your favourite.

AMY: Indeed. You’re still changing the subject.

THOMAS: Well, I do have to rush off. I mean, I am a surgeon and I do have rounds to make.

AMY: Go then. Everyone will find out about you soon enough.

THOMAS: *grins in that impish way he always does* And they’ll adore me. I know it.

Thomas and Geraldine’s story is coming out in November 2016. It’s my 12th book for Harlequin Medicals and their story is titled UNWRAPPED BY THE DUKE.

An unexpected inheritance…

When Geri Collins learns she’s the daughter of a lord her world changes in an instant. Running from a relationship gone wrong, she seizes the opportunity to help her gravely ill father by running his Harley Street clinic.

If only she didn’t have to deal with the sensual temptation of her new partner—the notorious “Dark Duke”!

Thomas Ashwood unnerves her with every burning look and suggestive word. And as Christmas approaches Geri finds herself contemplating the consequences of a kiss under the mistletoe…

ABOUT AMY:

Born and raised just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Amy fled the big city to settle down with the country boy of her dreams.

After the birth of her second child, Amy was lucky enough to realize her life long dream of becoming a romance author. When she’s not furiously typing away at her computer, she’s a mom to three wonderful children who use her as a personal taxi and chef.

Interview with Ana E. Ross author of DESIRE’S CHASE

Welcome Ana. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hi, I’m Ana E Ross a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author. I currently liveVersion 2 in the northeast, but I was born and raised on the Caribbean of Nevis, where I began reading romance novels at a very early age. BTW: Alexander Hamilton was also born on Nevis. He’s my fellow countryman. Yeah!

I’m a former Writing and English Literature teacher, but I resigned from the classroom in 2014 to pursue my dream of writing full time. I now write and self-publish steamy, contemporary multicultural and interracial romances featuring sexy, alpha heroes and strong, feisty heroines who fight and love with equal passion.

My published works include three short stories, five books in my Billionaire Brides of Granite Falls series, and one of three books in the spinoff series, Beyond Granite Falls. Desire’s Chase – Book 2 in my Beyond Granite Falls series will be released on August 29, 2016. The third book in this series will be coming out in December 2016.

Once my Beyond Granite Falls series is completed, I will begin work on my Billionaire Island Brides series. The sky’s the limit when it comes to my writing career.

Facts about me: I love travel, tennis, yoga, meditation, everything Italian, big cats, horses, and spending time with my gorgeous daughter. Visit my website at www.anaeross.com to learn more about me and my work.

Q: When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing plays, poems, and songs at a very early age for the Youth and Sunday school programs at my church. Later, I wrote love poems and short stories in high school. However, when it comes to romance, I got my inspiration from Mills & Boones, Regencies, and Historical Romance novels. I devoured them, sometimes four in a week from the time I was twelve years old.  There was one point when I’d read all the romances in the library, and had to wait for new shipments—a very frustrating period for me.

I love happy endings. That’s why I became a romance author.

Q: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

My books are filled with a variety of themes: Love and romance foremost of all, but my characters have to fight their way through, grief, pain, deceit, loss, and revenge before they can reach that Happy Place. But I think forgiveness and healing are the second and third themes that are prominently portrayed in my books. I try to send the message that Love does indeed conquer all.

Q: What authors have most influenced you? Why?

Brenda Jackson, the pioneer of black/multicultural romance, has been my greatest inspiration. I think she was the first author to write black romance. I grew up reading Harlequin and Silhouette romances where all the characters were white, even the secondary ones. I always wondered why there weren’t any romance stories about black people falling in love. Hope was born when I read Brenda Jackson’s One Special Moment. I had the honor of meeting Brenda in New York at the RWA National Conference in July 2011, and then again in Las Vegas at the RT 2016. Now, I have my own special moments, writing and publishing romances that women of all cultures can enjoy.

Q: What are you reading now?

I’m not reading anything right now. This year has been very difficult and trying for me. Lots of personal and health issues kept me from writing, but I think the worse is finally over. I look forward to producing more books in 2017, and reading from some of my favourite authors.

Q: What is your favorite punctuation mark and why?

My favourite punctuation mark is the period. I like it because it means that I have completed a sentence, and face it, books comprise of a series of sentences that grow into paragraphs. I love finishing sentences and paragraphs, and then moving on to the next.

Q: Tell us about your new release.

DESIRE’S CHASE (Chase and Desire) Book 2 of my Beyond Granite Falls series will be out Desire's Chasce SMALL (2)on August 29, 2016. Desire Summers was introduced as the wedding planner in With These Four Rings, Book 5 in Billionaire Brides of Granite Falls series. Desire’s journey begins with Chase Hunter, the bad boy she loved as a teenager, but who left town in a hurry due to a scandalous affair. Chase returned home immediately following Desire’s engagement to his brother, so there will be a lot of tension and drama in Evergreen—the neighboring town of Granite Falls where the Billionaire Brides series is set. It will be interesting to see how Chase and Desire overcome their obstacles and finally express their feelings and passion for each other. Bryce and Kaya Fontaine and their children from The Mogul’s Reluctant Bride – Book Two in my Billionaire Brides series will make an appearance in Desire’s Chase, since Bryce is a friend of Chase. You, Bryce lovers will not want to miss him!

Blurb: When Chase Hunter returns to his hometown of Evergreen to avenge the wrong done against him twelve years earlier, he becomes easily distracted with the unexpected news of his younger brother’s engagement to the girl Chase had been forced to leave behind—a girl, who has now blossomed into a stunning, desirable woman. As the wedding day approaches, Chase must find a way to stop the nuptials and win the heart of the only woman he’s ever loved.

After her older sister committed an unspeakable crime that tainted their family name, Desire Summers has lived her life trying to redeem it. But when Chase, her fiancé’s older brother returns to Evergreen, looking sexier and raunchier than she remembered, Desire fears that one look into his sexy gray eyes would shatter her good-girl façade into tiny little pieces.

Will these two souls be able to admit their love for each other before it’s too late, or will they let pride and circumstance stand in their way to Happily Ever After?

Desire’s Chase is currently available for pre-order at the discounted price of $1.99, but the price will increase to $3.99 on September 1, 2016, so grab your copies now. Read an EXCERPT and Purchase your Pre-Order Discounted copy here: http://www.anaeross.com/desires-chase-chase-desire/
