Fan Girl Thursday – Interview with Anna Durand

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m an award-winning romance writer and a freelance librarian, which combines to make me a bit of a crazy person. Reading is my obsession, but writing is my passion. I’ve written nonfiction and non-romance fiction, but I finally found my niche when I started writing romance, where I can indulge my fantasies about spunky heroines and hunky heroes. Living way out in far northern Michigan, I don’t get many chances to meet readers and other authors in person, so I make use of every online opportunity I can find. I also run a blog called Spunk & Hunks.

Q: When and why did you begin writing?

I started writing when I was just a kid. I’d make up stories in my head to pass the time when I was sick or bored in class. By high school, I’d decided to write my stories down, but I was too embarrassed to let anyone read them. Three of my novels went into the trash a few years after I wrote them. I knew they weren’t very good, and I firmly believe every writer must have the courage to dump a story that isn’t working.

Q: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Intuition is all about redemption and second chances. No matter how badly you’ve screwed up, unless you’ve become a serial killer, you can come back from it. In the book, David believes he has committed a terrible sin against Grace, one he doesn’t deserve forgiveness for, but Grace will never give up on him.

Q: What authors have most influenced you? Why?

In high school, I loved Dean Koontz and even wrote a horror short story for English class. Over the years, though, I realized what I love best about reading is romance and the happy ending. Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series taught me that I love steamy romances, and Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden books encouraged me to write paranormal stories. I also love Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander books, and the way she writes love scenes.

Q: What are you reading now?

A Kresley Cole book, of course! I’ve just started Dark Desires After Dusk, book 6 in the Immortals After Dark series.

Q: What is your favorite punctuation mark and why?

Hmm….I suppose I love the ellipsis. Though it’s much derided by snooty grammarians, it serves a valid and useful purpose in fiction. Commas create a pause, but an ellipsis tells you the character has lost the train of thought, or decided not to finish that sentence.

Q: Tell us about your new release.

Intuition is the second book in the Psychic Crossroads series. It continues the journey of Grace and David, whom we met in book one (Willpower). This book finishes their story, but their friend Sean’s arc has just begun.

About Intuition    IntuitionAnnaDurand

Torn apart by their haunted pasts, Grace Powell and her fiancé David Ransom are struggling to reclaim their passionate bond and build a normal life — one without danger and paranormal powers. Tesler covets her unprecedented abilities and her mysterious connection to a source of limitless psychic power. David will do anything — even abandon and lie to her — to protect Grace from Tesler.

With a psychic stalker on her trail, Grace charges into a desperate mission to uncover the truth about David’s obsession. But Tesler’s agents are closing in on her, and a terrifying new enemy is rising…

As events drive Grace and David toward a battle of epic proportions, they must risk everything — their relationship, their lives, and even their souls — to defeat an enemy who wields unspeakable psychic power.
